Hadlee is here!

Well, it's been a long time since I've posted, but it's been busy! I'll start at the beginning....

I went to the hospital on the evening of Wednesday, February 11th. I had the first step in the induction that night. Then went to bed. I got up Thursday morning at 5--showered and "got ready" for the day. I was back in my hospital bed by 6 and they started my IV's (after missing the first 2 veins they tried!). The pitocin to start my contractions was started by about 6:30.

I could feel pain that I thought was contractions, but the monitor wasn't picking them up. They were also having problems keeping Hadlee's heartbeat on the monitor, so I couldn't move much once they found it. At around 10, my doctor came in to check where I was. She said I was 3 cm dilated and about 90%. When she was still in the room, my water broke, and she said that things would probably get stronger from there. They inserted a scalpel monitor so they could get an accurate constant reading of Hadlee's heartbeat. They still couldn't pick up any of my contractions through the monitor, so they started monitoring them internally. I dilated to almost a 5 by 11, so I asked for my epidural as the pain was getting pretty intense and consistent.

The lady came and did my (1st) epidural shortly after 11. She had some problems with it, but eventually got it into where she thought it needed to go. I had pain relief about 15 minutes later, and my left leg went completely numb. Although, nothing happened to my right leg at all! I thought it was weird, but as long as I wasn't in unbearable pain, I was fine! Well, about 1, the full pain of my contractions came back. My nurse called the anesthesia department again and the same lady came back. She didn't know why my pain relief had 'worn off' and thought that I was just feeling pressure. However, she gave in and gave me another large dose of pain relief through the epidural. I once again had relief so thought everything was going well.

Well, unfortunately, around 3:30 my pain again came back with full force. Again the nurse called the anesthesia department and a new woman came up. She came up and really argued with me and the nurse about whether or not I "needed" pain medication. My nurse and I told her about my left leg being numb and my right leg being fine. I also had full mobile capability of both legs at this time. She really didn't want to give me anything and tried to tell me that I was going to feel some pain and that the epidural wasn't going to make everything go away. I expressed that I knew that, but didn't understand why I had had relief and then the pain came back. She reluctantly gave me another strong dose through my epidural. My nurse and I had already decided that since we knew the pain was going to come back and they didn't want to try to fix my epidural we would call them again in an hour and a half and have them come back to re dose me. Well, the latest woman who had given the last dose came back with the head anesthesiologist (her boss) and he tested by epidural by holding ice on to both of my legs, feet, hips, and stomach to see where I was numb, and where I could feel. He told her that it was obvious that the epidural wasn't working as it should be and she needed to redo it. Needless to say, she wasn't very happy.

She came back to the room about 15 minutes later with all her tools to redo my epidural. She took out the previous epidural and tried to get a new one started. It took her about 25 minutes to get it into the right spot (which she said was probably the deepest she's ever put one), but finally the 2nd epidural was done. It was just as uncomfortable as the first, unfortunately!

She left the room right around 4:15 or so and I started to feel relief from my contraction pain again. Lucky for me, this one was in the right spot! It was about an hour after this that I started to push--just when the last dose of pain meds would've been wearing off.

I believe I started pushing around 5 with the nurse. We were pushing 3 times with every contraction, and she said I was doing good. Hadlee was starting to come out, so she called the doctor. My doctor got to the room right around 6. I think I only pushed through about 2 or 3 contractions with the doctor when Hadlee came out--at 6:23 PM. She weighed in at 7 pounds, 11.5 ounces and was 20 inches long. My doctor was amazed that she was as small as that--she thought she would for sure be over 8 1/2 pounds! I'm glad she wasn't!

She is perfectly healthy and is doing well. We have been home since Saturday. I will post more about how things are going later, but wanted to get the birth story up for those of you that are interested. I'll post a couple pictures in a few minutes to satisfy some of you! More to come!

At the hospital!

Hello All!

Good news---I am sitting at Innovis as I write this! I will be started on Pitocin tomorrow morning around 6 or 7 so I'll be sure to keep you posted!

Dave just left to go home and let Lucy out and get some sleep. There is nothing great happening here until tomorrow, so I figure he better stay in a comfy bed! He's coming back bright and early tomorrow morning to be here for all the excitement!

I'll keep you all posted on what happens and will post pictures here as soon as I have them!

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers for Thursday!

Playing the Waiting Game.......

Well, no luck with my doctor keeping me after my appointment yesterday. All the beds in the birthing center were full, so she said that there was no room for me unless I went into labor on my own. So, here I sit at home with no Hadlee!

Anyway, unless I go into labor before Wednesday, I'll be going in for my induction that evening. I'll get hooked up to all the IV's and spend Wednesday night in the hospital. Then, bright and early Thursday morning, they'll start me on Pitocin to induce my contractions, and hopefully Hadlee will be here shortly after!

I'll keep you all posted, but at this point there is nothing exciting going on, unfortunately!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Bed rest--not so fun....

Well, for those of you who after my last post were thinking "wow, I wish I was on bedrest, too", you're wrong!! It's not as fun as you may think! I believe I have watched every Hallmark and Lifetime move that has been played on the two channels for the past month. I have also watched every rerun of CSI: NY, NCIS, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and House. It is not easy to not do anything. I'd be lying if I said that I had completely followed orders. I have been out running errands and did a little shopping (but not too much!).

I have another Dr. appointment tomorrow. With any luck she'll keep me and induce me tomorrow night! BUT I'm not holding my breath on that happening--I can only hope! At least Hadlee will be 38 weeks and 4 days tomorrow, so she's definitely ready to come out and see the world! I'll keep you all posted.

I hope you're all having great weeks at work and that your weekend is wonderful! I'll fill you in if anything exciting happens!

No more work for me!

Well, so much for my uneventful pregnancy!

I had a regular appointment on Friday afternoon. Went in, had the non stress test (which Hadlee passed with flying colors!), met with the doctor and found out that when the nurse took my blood pressure, it was too high. So, another nurse came in and retook my blood pressure. Then they come back and tell me that we're headed over to Labor and Delivery for monitoring.

I get over to the Labor and Delivery unit and call Dave, who is already on his way because we were supposed to take a childbirthing class that night. I get all changed into the beautiful backless gown and crawl into bed. I then get hooked up to the monitors to measure Hadlee's heartbeat and my blood pressure.

After about 2 hours of monitoring, the doctor comes in (luckily for me, my Dr happened to be on call!). She says that since I've been laying down, my blood pressure has come back down into an acceptable range. She said that she really wants me to make it one more week so that Hadlee will be past the 28 week mark, but she isn't sure if we'll get there or not. So--she is sending me home-ON BED REST! :( How boring! So, I am now at home on bed rest, as she said I couldn't work anymore.

I wasn't really ready to be done working, as I had lots of stuff I wanted to finish before I was done, but I guess you can't plan these types of things! Making sure that Hadlee is healthy is the most important thing, so here I sit on the couch. I've been recording as many Lifetime and Hallmark movies as possible! :) As if i wasn't emotional enough, I really need more tearjerker movies to watch! ha ha......

Oh well, that's how life goes! Hopefully Hadlee will be here by the end of the week, but I'm not holding my breath! I think she's already got a little stubborn mind of her own.

Hope you are all doing well and things are great! I'll keep you posted with any news that happens here!

Have a great week!

Induction Date Set!

Well, I went to the doctor last Friday and finally got some news! My doctor has scheduled an induction date for me--I am to report to the hospital at 7:00 PM on February 11th--then bright and early Thursday morning, they will give me the meds and we'll be good to go! That is, of course, if I last that long! My mom and her friends think that Hadlee will join us around February 4th or 5th, so we'll see what happens!
Dave and I went to tour the birthing center at Innovis on Saturday night. That was nice. We were able to see the delivery rooms, the nursery, the NICU, the operating room--where the C-sections are done, we met some of the nurses, and were able to ask lots of questions.
Dave and I are also scheduled to do a quick crash course (the weekend version) of lamaze and childbirth this weekend. I'm sure that will be an experience!
Hadlee's room is ready for her and I think we are all ready to go. Now it's just a matter of her deciding when she wants to join the rest of the world! We can't wait to meet her--hopefully she's a cute baby and not an ugly one! :) (just kidding, of course she'll be cute--a combination of Dave and I--how couldn't she be?!)

hope you're all having a great January! I'll post next time something happens!

Nothing new...

Hi All~

Well, I come with no real 'news'. I had a Dr. appointment today and everything looks good. Heartbeat was good and she's still head down.

The exciting news is that my Dr. told me next week we will talk about dates for induction. So, hopefully next Friday we will have a really good estimate of when Hadlee will be born!

My belly buddy--a woman I met online who was due a week after me--had her baby this week. Owen Glenn was born at 34.5 weeks--and was a whopping 8 lbs. 5 ounces. He is doing pretty good, but is being fed through a tube and is receiving oxygen. Please keep Amber and Owen in your thoughts and prayers.

Other than that, we are just waiting for Hadlee to come. Getting a little impatient but definitely want to keep her cooking as long as we can!

Mom and dad are coming this weekend to help us work on the basement. We are hoping to get some doors and trim hung. Probably won't get too much more work done before Hadlee gets here, so better work as much as we can now!

Hope all is well with all of you! I'll let you know what happens at my appointment next week! Should be one of the first exciting ones! :)

Baby's getting big!

Hi All! :)

Well, to answer the question that was asked in the one of the last comments, yes, I made that quilt for Hadlee. I am going to make her another one with the same fabrics, which I'll post when it's finished.

For all of you who won't quit bugging me about a picture of my belly--it's not a cute little belly like Jayme had--pretty much look like I had too many french fries and donuts! LOL but here you go! Now you can quit ragging on me! This is at right around 33 1/2 weeks, I think.

What else is new? I'm back at work, which, after a week off is rather difficult! By the end of the eight hour day I feel like I could just go to bed and sleep all night. HOWEVER, that's not happening either! I can't get comfortable at night and usually get less than 4-5 hours a night. So tired!! Oh well, at least there is only a little over month left, just preparing myself to not get any sleep once she gets here, I guess!
Nothing else new to report, I have a dr appointment on Friday, so we'll see if we get any news there.....talk to you later! Let me know if there is anything you want to know--want to make sure I appease my 'fans'! lol...just kidding!
Have a great rest of the week!

Hadlee's Room

OK--Pictures of Hadlee's Room! :) I've had a few people ask what Hadlee's room will look like and what colors we are decorating in...well....what else other than pink and brown? Here are some pic's....must say, I'm a little jealous that her closet is more organized than mine! :(....

Hope you like it! :) Let me know what else you want to know, girls! I'm running out of topics real fast!

Have a great evening--I hear there is a new episode of Desparate Housewive's on tonight...

Hadlee has a middle name! FINALLY!

Hey All!

Hadlee now has a middle name! Her full name will be Hadlee Allisabeth Nygaard.

And--since I know that I will get questions on how we came up with that name, I'll fill you in before you have a chance to ask. LOL--
As most of you know, Dave had 2 sisters that passed away, as well as his mom. They were Carol Elizabeth (mom), Kate Allison (sister), and Margaret Elizabeth (sister). So, we wanted to try to combine them somehow, and we came up with Allisabeth. Hopefully you all don't think her name is too odd.....we really like it and love how it has meaning to both of our families.

We did a lot of work on Hadlee's room this weekend, and I am planning on taking pictures this afternoon and posting them.

Have a great Sunday--and here's to a great work week!

Happy New Year!

Hey All!
Happy New Year! What a year 2009 is going to be!

What's new here, not a whole lot. I've been trying to get a lot done while I'm on vacation from work. Yesterday I washed a whole bunch of baby clothes! Working on getting them all put away and getting Hadlee's room organized. I just want to get a closet organizer in place so I have a place to put everything!

I've had a couple questions about how we came up with the name Hadlee. Well, we'd been looking through lots and lots and lots of books--and came across Hadley. It means "fields of Heather". Well--we wanted a name that we could associate with both of our families. As most of you know, my middle name is Lee, as is my mother's maiden name--so we changed the ley to lee. Makes her name a little more personal and has a little additional meaning for us. We are avidly working on a middle name, sure to be just as creative, you can bet on it! LOL I'll keep you posted, as we're hoping to make that decision in the next few days!

Lucy is doing well--with all of our discussions of middle names, Dave has decided that Lucy now needs one, too! SO, he has decided that since my childhood dog's name was Elvis, Lucy's middle name will be Priscilla. LOL! OK--so officially, our dog's full name is Lucy Priscilla Nygaard. She's behaving a lot better than she did when we first got her. Dont' get me wrong, she still jumps to greet all our visitors and guards our house by barking at every car/truck/person that goes by the front of the house. But, she has definatly calmed down a little bit--I think she's looking forward to having a new face to lick!

We met with a potential day care provider yesterday. She was really nice. She is a younger lady who cares for 2 kids in her home. She has 3 kids of her own, a 6 year old, 2 year old, and a 9 month old. She also cares for another baby--a 6 month old baby named Finley. She lives in Osgood, so it's conveniently located on my way to work. I think she seemed really nice, so we'll have some more decisions to make coming up soon! She also has a dog, a boxer--the calmest dog I've ever seen--nothing compared to Lucy! I think that's kind of nice actually--Hadlee is going to be around Lucy all the time, so it would be good for her to be around another dog all day.

I suppose, that's about it for now. I hope you all start your 2009's off wonderfully! I wish you all great happiness and health.

Update soon!
